(fireworks at the starting line after the national anthem and american flags lining the course)
On Saturday, February 28, 2015 I wore blue and ran 13.1 purposeful miles for my dear friend Lisa Hallett, for her 3 beautiful children and for her husband, whom I never met.
Lisa's husband, Army Capt. John Hallett was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2009.
To cope with the loss, Lisa turned to running and found that it helped her work through her grief.
She started asking other army wives to run with her, and as that running group grew, she eventually founded a non-profit called "wear blue: run to remember."
Who she is and what she has done is nothing less than incredible, inspiring and amazing.
I am in awe of all military families and so thankful for all the men and women who fight for our freedoms.
I am forever indebted to them and the sacrifices they make and the sacrifices their families make as well.
And I was honored and humbled to wear blue on that beautiful saturday morning.
So this one's for you, Lisa...for the fallen, for the fighting, and for the families.
