a Minecraft birthday for my 7 year old

Last year, we went on a family trip to Disneyland for his birthday instead of doing a birthday party with his friends.
So this year, we promised him a big birthday celebration with his friends.
He chose a Minecraft theme...and I agreed to it, with every intention of just heading to Party City and buying all the pre-made party supplies there.
But apparently there is some copyright/licensing issue and no one makes Minecraft party supplies.
But Madden's heart was already set on a Minecraft party, so I turned to Pinterest and Etsy for help.

Madden's birthday this year just so happened to fall on a Saturday, so we planned his party on his actual birthday.
That morning he woke up to birthday donuts and presents to open from us and his grandparents.

After breakfast and presents, we went to Fat Cats and Madden played arcade games and won lots of prizes.
Then we stopped for a happy meal on the way home (his choice, of course) and once we got home, we put destructive little brother down for a nap and got to work, Minecraft-ing the crap out of our house.

I hung a Netherportal and stuck an Enderman on his cake and made Creeper envelopes and balloons...and I don't have a clue what half of those words mean...but it was all worth it to see how much fun Madden and his friends had. :)

I can't take credit for the amazing cake, though...
My friend Marisa made it and it turned out awesome!

Once Madden's friends arrived, we played some Minecraft games...

First, they de-coded a secret mine craft message...

Then they played a Creeper bean bag toss and a Creeper bowling game...

And Minecraft Bingo...

And my favorite was the Minecraft Treasure Hunt...
It was so cute how into it the boys were!
I found the idea on Pinterest, but basically the boys ran all over the house from clue to clue with a Minecraft torchlight to guide the way.
When they made it to the final clue, there was a treasure box full of tiny mine craft prizes for each of the boys to have.
They loved it!

The other big party hit was the TNT piƱata...(thanks, Etsy!)

And then it was time for presents and cake...

At the end of the party, the boys all got to make their own goody bags and pop their TNT party poppers...

Madden and his friends had a blast and it made me so happy to see how much fun they all had.

That night, we went out to dinner and when we got home we told Madden since it was his birthday he could do whatever he wanted and stay up as late as he wanted.
He chose to stay up late in the playroom, with the lights out, building his new Minecraft lego set by the glow of his new Minecraft torchlight ;)

I thought it was so cute :)
I love this Minecraft-loving birthday boy!
And had so much fun celebrating him!
