the beeper king

My husband has a beeper.

Last night when Randy got home from his full-time clinical at the hospital, he checked his beeper and I asked him if it was his girlfriend from 1996 that was paging him.

Because remember back in 1996 (and 1997, 1998, 1999...) when everyone had beepers? Every single one of my friends in high school had a beeper. My sister Summer and I used to come home from school everyday and beg my parents to let us get one, because we were the "only" ones who didn't have a beeper. But my Dad always said no because, and I quote here,
"only drug dealers and prostitutes need beepers!"

And doctors too, Dad. You forgot about doctors.

P.S. And Dad...only half of your statement was correct. None of the girls I went to school with were prostitutes. But I'm pretty sure a few of them might have been drug dealers.

umm, does dad know randy is the beeper king?
this is hella funny, but one reason I'm laughing is also that you call them beepers. you are so old. pagers, sister, they are (were) called pagers. and I totally remember wanting one too. mom and dad were so mean to us.

Sister ...we called them pagers in high school too. I'm not THAT old. But Randy IS "the beeper king" so I like to call it a beeper.

lol, Justin has one too for being on call for SWAT stuff. They are pretty silly looking, I was a little embarassed when he wore it on his pants for the first time to church. Now i am pretty ust to it.

yes pagers. I was giving mom and dad a hard time about that statement of theirs just recently and can you believe they didn't even remember saying it?? ALL THREE OF US remember it!! And yes, some of our boyfriends were drug dealers : )

I DO remember saying the part about "only drug dealers needing them". Glad you all survived despite your lack of pagers and your ruthlessly mean parents :) Can't wait to see what your kids are begging for by the time they are teenagers.

I do not disavow that statement....(along with many other inspired truisms I uttered) I proudly stand behind it. I dont think Randy needs one Tiff...the only one in our family that is quallified (as of now) is Paul. Maybe someday Randy and Josie can have one, but right now I forbid it.
