festival days in DG

YEAR 1:
June 2009 - We had just moved here. Madden was a colicy newborn. It stressed me out to take him anywhere. But my new friend Ashley invited me to go down to the festival with her. And I was excited to have a friend, so I went. Little did I know then that she was about to become my chicago bestie. :) The next night, Randy and I went back and just walked around with the babe in the stroller and paid way too much $ for a pina colada smoothie that tasted nothing like pina colada. Then we admired all the lightening bugs that had come out on our long walk back to the car.

YEAR 2:
June 2010 - Madden had just turned 1. We had never really taken him on any rides before, so we weren't sure what he would think. But I really wanted to take him on the carousel because I thought he would love it. He didn't. He hated it. So we did not go on anymore rides after that. But we still walked around the festival and ran into the Condies, the Olsens, the Alstons, and the Porters. And I'm pretty sure we paid way too much $ for some crazy over-priced carnival snacks. But whatev.

YEAR 3:
June 2011 - Dropped hella $ on tickets. Cuz Madden couldn't get enough of the kiddie rides. Even the drop zone ride that I thought would be way too scary for him (that his dad MADE me take him on anyways). Madden loved it all. We ran into the Porters and Alstons again (because it seems to have become a tradition to spend festival days with them) and went on more rides. Even when our tickets (and our $) ran out, the Porters just kept giving us more tickets so Madden could keep going on more rides. That night when I tucked Madden into bed, he told me he wanted to go back on the rides. I told him maybe we would tomorrow if he went to bed. And he then proceeded to list all 9 of the rides he had been on that day, just to be sure that I knew he wanted to ride every single one again. I couldn't believe he remembered every.single.one. So of course we went back the next night :) It was worth it just to see the smile on Maddens face as he went on all the rides again. On the way home we bought a ridiculously expensive fried snickers bar to share. It was damn delicious and worth every penny and every calorie.

Sad to think that this was our last summertime festival here in DG... :(

I'm sad we never made it down when you were there! We didn't get to spend nearly as much time at the festival this year because of the luau, and it made me sad!! I can't believe its our last one too! :( I'm gunna miss this place.

how fun! I love going to things like that (as long as they aren't too white trash/ghetto....like a certain AZ fair I am thinking of....). And how cute that Madden named off all the rides.
Oh, and the fried snickers? Yep. Love them. Worth the million dollars and the calories, like you said.

Madden is a thrillseeker. Not at all like you Tiff when you were his age you kept your hands over your eyes and cried on It's a Small World . Must be Randy making. sure his son is brave :)

Okay. I cried on "It's A Small World" too... you aren't the only chicken in that regard. And I have had a BLAST with you every year at the festivals and don't even try to remind me that you will not be here next summer because I am in denial and I will get depressed and I can't afford the prozac. so just STOP!
