Our Thanksgiving this year was a little different than years past, but a special one nonetheless.
We decided that since we didn't have any family coming in from out of town (and since Randy had to work the day before and the day after and we weren't able to travel far), that instead of putting in all the work and time and $ into making a big huge feast just for our tiny little family, that we would go out to eat somewhere. So Thanksgiving morning, we drove up to the Little America hotel in Flagstaff and ate their Thanksgiving buffet. It was just our family of 4 and Uncle Trent. We missed the Clowards this year, but it was kinda fun to eat out for once...no grocery shopping, no cooking, no cleaning, no dishes...it was awesome!
(Until the next day, when I had no yummy leftovers to warm up.)
While we waited for our reservation to be called at the Little America, we sat by a warm fire and drank hot cocoa while the kids played and colored Thanksgiving pictures...
The food was INCREDIBLE!
Madden loved the miniature kids buffet table and feasted on all kinds of yummy kid food, but the highlight for him was definitely the chocolate fountain...
Beckett finally has his first tooth, and just in time for Thanksgiving! He chowed down on just about anything he could get his hands on. He was double fisting food from the moment we sat down til the moment we left. But then when we left and we looked under his highchair, we wondered if any of it even made it into his mouth...
For the adults, the traditional thanksgiving dishes were our appetizer, but then the real highlight was the prime rib and king crab legs...
After we ate until our stomachs hurt, we walked around the gorgeous hotel and tried desperately to get a family pic...
Then we worked off some of those Thanksgiving calories by playing duck-duck-goose and hide and seek on the grass outside before getting in the car to drive back home...
...where we found a surprise visitor!
That night, the kids slept in their new christmas jammies.
(that I busted out like a week ago, cuz I just couldn't wait any longer!)
I love this time of year when we are reminded to reflect on all that we have to be thankful for.
And although I have so much to be grateful for, these peeps are at the top of my list...this year, and every year.
